The St. Regis, Florence Suites Collection

The building that houses The St. Regis Florence has a long and remarkable history: designed in the early 15th century as a palace for local nobility by Filippo Brunelleschi, the architect of the Duomo Santa Maria del Fiore, it was converted to a hotel in the mid-1800s. The grandeur of the hotel’s architecture and its splendid location on the banks of the Arno, just steps from the Uffizi Gallery, made it a favorite stop for notable travelers, including Queen Victoria.

In light of the building’s significance, the approach to the recent restoration was lengthy and careful, with plans based upon studies of two of Florence’s most famous palazzos. Meticulous renewal techniques were employed to preserve the architectural integrity of the building, and the work was carried out using local artisans, products, and design elements. As a result, the spirit of the city and its history is evident everywhere: in the hand-painted Tuscan and Florentine landscapes in every suite, in the antique Italian engravings framed in hand-carved gold leaf frames, and in the antiques and decorative objects placed throughout the hotel.
