The History

Since its creation in England in the early 1800s by Anna, Duchess of Bedford, Afternoon Tea has long been associated with the entertainment of society. In the late 19th century, it was Caroline Astor, mother of the St. Regis founder John Jacob Astor IV, who elevated Afternoon Tea to a new level by introducing the ritual at dignified gatherings at her house in Manhattan.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the St. Regis. The decor of the hotel, from the lobby, to the bar, to the rooms and bathrooms, are beautiful - classy, stylish and not too overly stuffy. In addition, the staff was incredibly attentive and friendly, always looking for ways to be helpful, responsive, and kind. We loved the perks, like welcome drinks, chocolates left on our bed, the free coffee every morning (great for two American coffee addicts like me and my wife), and the offer to press 2 items each day per person. We felt like VIP during our stay and express our gratitude to the attention to detail, and strive for perfection from the hotel staff and management. Our only minor complaint is the quality of the gym, which was a tiny room with little ventilation, no music, and one t.v. Also, the t.v. channels available leave a bit to be desired (mostly only foreign language news channels only). Need an English speaking movie channel.
